“I am the Lord who heals you”
Exodus 15:26
When we think about healing, we often think about it in terms of our physical bodies. But God longs to heal our total being. He is Jehovah Ropha- God our healer (Exodus 15:26). He is Healer of our physical body, soul, mind, and heart.
Just like salvation is for everyone who receives and believes in Jesus (Romans 10:9), healing is ours in Christ Jesus as we believe and receive it. The prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well (James 5: 14)
Jesus healed us spiritually when He became sin for us and took our place (“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ” 2 Corinthians 5:21), He heals us emotionally as we give Him permission, surrender our pain, and lean on Him through the process (“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” Psalm 147:3), and He heals us mentally as we allow the word to renew our minds and transform us (“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” Romans 12:2).
Sometimes God heals us instantly as we ask and receive what He has done for us- “by His stripes we ARE healed” Isaiah 53:5. He Himself took our infirmities, and bore our sicknesses (Matthew 8: 17). Other times, He leads us on a journey to healing as we seek truth and uncover things we can do in this physical world that will lead us to health.
For me, He led me to the truth of undisclosed steroids that were wreaking havoc on my health, He led me to understand how gluten, dairy, and a unhealthy gut were contributing to unwanted symptoms, and he led me to discover toxins that were loaded in foreign objects I had chose to put in my body (breast implants). And throughout the journey- He healed me in countless other ways emotionally, spiritually, and mentally.
However God chooses to heal- trust Him completely as the Great Physician and know that He is faithful.
